[Music] learning piano on your own requires a lot of self-discipline and a focus on those intrinsic motivators doing this on your own can offer a lot of flexibility and freedom but it can also leave you a little confused and just unsure of what step to take next so today let's talk about the best way to learn this beautiful instrument on your own before we get started I want you to know that this video applies to anyone wanting to learn the piano even those who just want to play around for fun just because you might not have concert pianist aspirations doesn't mean that you should set your piano Foundation bar Lower so you just want to play for fun great it's a great reason to learn the piano what other reason is there really let's say you learn one piece for fun without learning the actual nuts and bolts Behind the Music it's okay right but you have a great time learning it from someone just showing you where to put your hands on the piano now what though how long is this one piece gonna be fun for you what's your next goal well chances are you'll eventually need to learn how to read music unless you just want to keep having someone put your hands on the piano like a puppet so anyway this is the plan that might require more effort up front but will give you the most flexibility and knowledge for the future whatever that holds for you and that means more fun so first get a method book like the Faber or Alfred book if your prior musical experience is Slim this is so worth the 20 or so the essential piano knowledge like music notation music symbols and just other things that you'll see in music everywhere it's all organized in a really smart way that doesn't overwhelm you it's Progressive and it offers peace of mind that you're learning what you need to know to set a good piano Foundation then make a learning and practice plan even if you're unsure if it's the right way to go just make it follow it for a bit but you can always change it but always have a plan that's the key this might look like okay every day I'm gonna read two pages in My Method book and practice any of the pieces within those two pages and every day I'll add two more pages but continue to practice the pieces from before until I can play it musically as in it sounds like music and this might take a couple days it might take a week or a couple weeks then when I reach page 50 I'll start adding supplementary music like technique exercises or other easy and free music or maybe add some more music theory whatever it is a plan will give you a sense of purpose and Direction which is important when you're learning piano on your own in conjunction with this do other research that corresponds with whatever you're learning for example if you just learned about eighth notes in the method book search for free videos related to that on YouTube there are a ton go down the occasional Rabbit Hole while it's not always the most productive it means that you're curious and it will keep your interest peaked so do other research and a quick plug for my favor follow along course that is in the pre-launch phase as of this video we're in unit 11 and all of these videos go hand in hand with this favorite book one as well as offer supplementary material like Theory ear training and sight reading and deep dives into what the book presents so if you're using the Faber book or thinking about it I want you to check this course out the link is in the description and right now it's only twenty dollars a month so look at the website for more information okay next don't expect perfection in your plane yes you want to learn Concepts in theory correctly but as far as playing goes well that takes years to develop even when you mentally understand a particular technique like what I talked about last week stirring the pot it doesn't mean you'll be able to execute it perfectly it's gonna feel awkward it's gonna feel weird but that doesn't mean that you should spend hours and hours on just that one technique work with it a little bit every week keep it in the back of your mind and then trust that with your consistent effort eventually that technique will develop and Blossom another important and easy thing to do is to record your progress it's too easy to just not notice how much better you've gotten and therefore you kind of lose motivation it's like the equivalent of progress picks when you're on a fitness journey it reminds you of just how much progress you truly have made I suggest recording yourself playing something anything really once a month and I guarantee that it will be so much fun to look back at these videos down the road you'll be shocked at how far you've come your plane will look and sound more natural Musical and flowing so don't miss these opportunities to Pat yourself on the back when you meet with a private teacher once a week that's a weekly dose of encouragement and motivation self Learners don't get this so use this opportunity finally consider joining a community nowadays this most likely will mean joining a free online group or Forum but if you can find one in your actual Community Neighborhood use that now fellow introvert here speaking you do not have to be super active and outspoken to get the benefits from being in a community but you will learn something from other people's questions and shares and it is great to have a place to go to if you have a question plus you can easily give support and encouragement with a simple like or a positive comment as well as receive it so that's it that's the best path right now to learning piano on your own says me if you're currently a self learner let me and others know your secret formula for staying in gay and progressing thanks for watching everyone and I'll see you next time ...
