[Music] hi and welcome to this first lesson the quick start lesson for piano right today we're going to look at the notes of the piano we look at some basic chords and a little bit of improvisation all right so let's start when you look at the piano you can see groups of two and three black notes now if you look at the group of two the note to the left we call C if we go down two white notes from there we get to a and then just use the letters of the alphabet so we go a b c d e f g and back to a now the black notes are related to the white notes so if we start on C again we move to the right we get C sharp but that's also d flat moving to the left so this note here is D sharp and E flat same this one is F sharp G flat G sharp a flat a sharp B flat right so there's the names of all the notes now let's look at the hands on the piano so we've got five fingers in each hand we can assign them to notes like that and a good exercise to get your hands going and your fingers dextrous is to place your fingers starting on C and lift each finger and press it down without moving any of the other [Music] ones it's quite a difficult exercise but you can actually do it anywhere you can do it at work you can do it on the bus you want to have your hand sort of held like you're holding an orange as well so just do that [Music] again of course you can do the same with your left hand as well starting with your little finger down on this C and try not to move any of the other fingers we can do them [Music] together and then we can start moving them [Music] smoothly and that will get your fingers moving nicely and you a lot of strength to fingers as well right so let's do some basic chords so if we Sil and C again and if we skip every every second note we can get a C major chord let see we're using those three fingers if we shift that up get another chord starting on D which is D Minor E minor F major G major a minor that's a b diminish which we won't be looking at here so we can do the same with the left hand C D Minor E minor F major G major a minor when we're playing a left ter we often leave out the middle finger so gives a better sound it's not so muddy and with these chords we can pick four of them that are really popular and used in lots of popular songs c g a minor F major now we can do a little bit of improvisation so with your right hand you can play any White Knight you like and with your left hand we will just do those four chords so we might go [Music] [Applause] [Music] so that is your first quick start lesson to the piano for more lessons about chords and how play chords and use chords to play songs you can see my book piano chords the easy way which is available on my website my canon. biz piano ...
