this is everything you need to unlock every single chord on the piano in this video I'm going to show you how to use this chord chart it's so simple plus you can grab your own free download below this video we've got it all chaptered out so if you want to skip ahead to learn how to build a certain chord you can do that too now in order to use this chord chart all you need to know is a scale all right so if we look at the C scale we've got c d e f g a b and c so if we give each one of those keys a number 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and one we're good to go all right so to build a C major chord all you need to do is use the one the three and the five of the c major scale it's that simple one three and five and boom you've got that major chord and this is a really foundational chord because a lot of the other ones we're going to build are based off of this formula so 1 3 and five now if you want to make that a minor chord A C minor all you have to do it's the same numbers the one the three and the five but we've got a flat sign beside that three so it's the flat three which means all you got to do is move your three down a half step which means from where you are to the next possible key which brings us right here one flat three and five and now we've got a C minor chord and it's super pretty so the only difference between a major chord and a minor chord is a half step that third is flattened between the major and the minor so there you go next up we've got a diminished chord which is really sort of a scary sounding chord same numbers one we've got a flat three and this time we've got a flat five so we move this five down a half step whoa it sounds really really kind of scary so there you go that's a diminished chord moving along augmented so this one uses the one the three and this time we're going to use a sharp five sharp does the opposite of a flat it's going to move up a half step so if we're normally five is G we're going to move up a half step next possible note isn't that fun so you've got this is a major this is an augmented feels like you're going somewhere it's super cool so that brings us to the end of our three note chord so we've got our Triads now we're going to be looking at some sevenths so this is where you get those Jazzy warm sounds so the first one is the major 7even so it's great because it uses the one the three and the five just like a major Triad does but I'm going to use my two finger on the three and my three finger on the five because then I can use my baby finger my five finger on the seven ooh isn't that pretty and you can play those notes in any order you like um to create the chord but that's the formula to build it Minor 7 we're going to build a Minor triad just like we did at the beginning so one flat three and five this time our seven is also going to be flat so we're we're going to bring this down from here to here ooh we've got that Minor 7 it's lovely all right dominant seven this is the bluesy one so this one uses the one three and five of a major chord and the Seven is flat seven so you're going to bring that b down a half step and you've got your dominant seven okay augmented seven we're going to have our one our three a sharp five and a flat s seven what that's a crazy chord all right next up we've got a dominant 7even flat five and I know that sounds like a crazy chord but as you can see when we use our formulas it's way less intimidating you just got to use the formula to build it we can play a dominant 7 1 3 5 and flat seven and then all we have to do is flatten the five so my third finger is there right now I'm going to bring it down a half step so we go from here dominant 7 to a dominant 7 flat five ooh that's kind of fun moving on through our crazy chords we've got a minor major 7even which sounds insane but we can do it we're going to play One Flat three five and seven only two more to go we've got a half diminished chord so this time we're going to build using the one the flat three the flat five and the flat seven so everything but the one is just brought down a half step there you go all right our last chord is the diminished seven so check this out we've got our one we've got our flat three our flat five and then a double flat seven so we take the seven and we bring it down a half step and then another half step to make it a double flat and there we have our diminished seven chords so another way to think of this is it's just a stack of minor thirds so if you think in groups of like three half steps from here we go up three 1 two 3 and then we go 1 two 3 and we go 1 2 three that's a diminished seven chord now it gets really crazy cuz this chord is kind of magical if you invert it by taking this bottom note I'm just placing it up here you actually get another diminished chord now we have an E flat diminished chord and then if we invert it again we have a FP diminished and this just continues on now an A diminished so it's kind of a crazy chord it's super fun it brings some tension into the mix and now you have the formulas for every single chord I've demonstrated all of these for you based on the key of C but you can actually apply these to any scale so if you're looking at a chord chart for example and they're asking you to play an E seven chord or an e dominant seven chord what you would do is you'd figure out your E major scale which is e f gsh a b CSH D sh and E and then you would apply the formula for a dominant seven chord the one the three the five and then the flat seven of that scale now you've got your E7 chord so this is really really versatile you can pick any cord any scale use the formula build it out you've got everything you need to know to play any chord you want thank you so much for joining me on this little cord
